Add a Node to Oracle RAC (11gR2)
Basic Installation
(11gR2 RAC) is done using - - -
The only
difference is among node names:
Venus (1st node
name) instead of ol5-112-rac1
Jupiter (2nd node
name) instead of ol5-112-rac2
Saturn (3rd node
name) is the new node which will be added into already running 11gR2 RAC
What do i pre-assume on new node i.e. on Saturn :
Similar swap, temp, limits.conf settings, kernel settings,
ntp must be off, etc.
Same directory structure as on previous running nodes,
Same users, group’s configuration as on previous running
nodes,
Update /etc/hosts
file on each node adding entries for new node "Saturn", so that
it would look like –
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
10.131.XXX.163 venus.localdomain Venus
10.131.XXX.221 jupiter.localdomain Jupiter
10.131.XXX.101 saturn.localdomain Saturn
192.168.1.103 venus-priv.localdomain venus-priv
192.168.1.104 jupiter-priv.localdomain jupiter-priv
192.168.1.105 saturn-priv.localdomain saturn-priv
10.131.XXX.211 venus-vip.localdomain venus-vip
10.131.XXX.222 jupiter-vip.localdomain jupiter-vip
10.131.XXX.102 saturn-vip.localdomain saturn-vip
10.131.XXX.247 scan1.localdomain scan1
and previously it was :
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
10.131.XXX.163 venus.localdomain Venus
10.131.XXX.221 jupiter.localdomain Jupiter
192.168.1.103 venus-priv.localdomain venus-priv
192.168.1.104 jupiter-priv.localdomain jupiter-priv
10.131.XXX.211 venus-vip.localdomain venus-vip
10.131.XXX.222 jupiter-vip.localdomain jupiter-vip
10.131.XXX.247 scan1.localdomain scan1
ASM must be configured and "#oracleasm listdisks" command on Saturn must show the the same disks used by Venus, Jupiter.
Configure

WARNING: A new inventory has been created on one or more
nodes in this session. However, it has not yet been registered as the central
inventory of this system.
To register the new inventory please run the script at
'/u01/app/oraInventory/orainstRoot.sh' with root privileges on nodes 'Saturn'.
If you do not register the inventory, you may not be able to
update or patch the products you installed.
The following configuration scripts need to be executed as
the "root" user in each cluster node.
/u01/app/oraInventory/orainstRoot.sh #On nodes Saturn
/u01/app/11.2.0/grid/root.sh #On nodes Saturn
To execute the configuration scripts:
1. Open a terminal
window
2. Log in as
"root"
3. Run the scripts
in each cluster node
The Cluster Node Addition of /u01/app/11.2.0/grid was
successful.
Please check '/tmp/silentInstall.log' for more details.

WARNING:
The following configuration scripts need to be executed as
the "root" user in each cluster node.
/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/root.sh #On nodes Saturn
To execute the configuration scripts:
1. Open a terminal
window
2. Log in as "root"
3. Run the scripts
in each cluster node
The Cluster Node Addition of
/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1 was successful.
Please check '/tmp/silentInstall.log' for more details.

[root@saturn db_1]#
Change ownership of ‘oracle’
AT VENUS
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/:
[oracle@venus
bin]$ ls -lrt oracle
-r-sr-s--x 1 oracle
dba 173515905 Dec 6 23:14 oracle
AT SATURN
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/:
[oracle@saturn
bin]$ ls -lrt oracle
-r-sr-s--x 1 oracle
oinstall 173515905 Dec 11 16:56 oracle
The end-goal is to have the permissions of the ‘oracle’
binary match the other nodes in the cluster.
So …
[oracle@saturn
bin]$ chgrp dba $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle
[oracle@saturn
bin]$ chmod 6751 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle
[oracle@saturn
bin]$ ./cluvfy comp admprv -o db_config
-d $ORACLE_HOME -n venus,jupiter,saturn -verbose > $ORACLE_HOME/admprv.log
